Honey, Don't You Worry

Honey, don't you worry about my soul... take care of your own. My law-givers are Erasmus and Montaigne, not Moses and St Paul. My temple stands not upon Mount Moriah but in that Elysian Field where even the immoral are admitted.

So I think this rather, er, intrinsic piece deserves an explanation. I was at the mall today with my boyfriend and there was this almost-old lady. She came up to us and asked something along the lines of "Do you know, without a doubt, that after this life, you'll go to heaven?" I replied no, and that I didn't care (to which she raised her eyebrow and asked, "Really?"), and walked away.

There are those who consider themselves saints. There are those who greedily convince themselves into believing others need help. It makes me wonder about their subconscious agenda -- what have you done? What sins have you committed that made you reach out to others, in hopes of saving your own soul?

And there are also those - like me - who don't need to be "saved." If there is a hell, so be it. If there is a heaven, so be it. If there is nothing at all, then so be it. Frankly, I'd put a lot more effort into the life that is living. Heaven and all of its perfection doesn't need my help. This world does.

Now, with all that said, please understand that I am in no way bashing anyone or their faiths. There are true saints and there are people who truly need a savior. My explanation above was just to give you illustration, in words, of what motivated this piece. I don't hate anyone! Tehe.
